bioWhen I was a child, my favorite pastime was drawing
copies of characters from TV and coloring books. With encouragement from my family, I took many art classes. In high school, I met the illustrator James Barkley and worked as his apprentice for a few years; he encouraged me to attend the School of Visual Arts in New York City. After graduating from SVA, my first professional illustrated projects were for advertising and editorial magazines, but I had always longed to work in children's books.

My first break was with Golden Books. I have gone on to illustrate more than 30 books for publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Grosset & Dunlap, Scott Foresman, North-South, Publications International, MacMillan, Sesame Workshop, Pearson Learning, School Zone, Joshua Morris & Troll Publications.

Recently, I've been developing artwork for licensing. In fact, I exhibited at SURTEX and was well received. This is an exciting new direction for me. It's fun to create characters and see them on greeting cards, puzzles, T-shirts, and games!

I live in Yorktown Heights, New York, with my husband Rick, and two children, David and Rebecca. We share our house with a Westie, a hamster, and a whole bunch of tropical fish. Thanks to the help of my agents, Cornell & McCarthy, I have been able to balance my work and family life!
